The Mission
At Life Church, our mission is to Reach the Lost and Teach the Found. Do you see yourself as part of that mission? Every serving team—and every team member—is an important part of what God is doing through our church.
“For just as in one physical body we have many parts, and these parts do not all have the same function or special use, so we, who are many, are nevertheless just one body in Christ, and individually we are parts one of another, mutually dependent on each other. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them accordingly…”. Romans 12:4-6 (AMP)
The Christian walk is a journey, and everyone who walks into Life Church is at a different stage of that journey, from the unsaved to those who have been believers for many years.
A welcoming smile, a warm greeting, or a word of encouragement can make the difference in whether their hearts are open to receiving what God has for them. It might come from a greeter, a parking lot attendant, or the person who serves them at the cafe. It might be the kind gesture of an usher who finds them a seat, or the person in the kids’ ministry who makes their child feel welcome and safe.
It is often much easier to see our role in reaching the lost and to give it greater focus and importance than teaching the found. Maybe you would say, “I’m not a teacher”, or view that part of the mission as the pastors' responsibility. However, we all teach in some aspect of our lives. Teaching doesn’t just happen in a classroom setting or a church service. It happens as others observe how we live, hear how we speak, and evaluate if our words and our lives are aligned. Others learn from watching you serve, from hearing your testimony about how it has changed your life, your family, or the impact on someone you served. When you allow God to work through you by praying for someone or sharing a scripture or word of encouragement, you help them grow in their faith as they learn that God hears their prayers and loves them.
God has placed gifts within each of us, and no gift is insignificant. What seems simple to you might be the act that changes someone’s life. Someone needs your gift. “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many” Matthew 20:28 (NLT)
